Hair & Make-Up Tips:
If you are doing hair and make-up yourself… your hair and make-up should be done prior to your arrival to the session. I recommend that make-up be applied a bit heavier than normal, everyday make-up. This allows the colors to show up nicely in camera. Pro tip - take a selfie! If your selfie looks picture perfect, you will too. If your make-up looks washed out or faint, go back for some touch ups.
Hair can be worn in an updo or down, whatever makes you feel pretty! I do recommend that if you choose an updo that has some body and is not severely pulled back. Braids, curls, and twists are always a classic choice. I will have accessories such as floral crowns, combs, and hats with me at the session.
Nails! Consider your fingernails for your session. I recommend neutral colors or natural nails. While red, pink, and glitter can be lovely - keep in mind your hands are seen in many maternity poses. A lot going on with your fingertips may distract from the overall image. Chipped and flakey polish is just a no.
Professional Hair & Make-Up
If you are having hair and make-up done professionally be sure to talk with your artist about camera ready looks. Hairstyles should last through some outfit changes and hold its shape for a couple of hours. I am happy to recommend hair and make-up artists if you prefer to book yourself, or you can always add in hair and make-up services into your session.

If you are getting your nails done by a professional beforehand, please let your nail tech know you are having photos done and ask for their recommendations.
Undergarments:
Undergarments are important when wearing a maternity gown.
A strapless bra (as close as “nude to you” is best) or a bra where the straps can be tucked in or removed is ideal. Almost any strapless bra will do, preferably one with a deep plunge and high cleavage. Or silicone bra stickers are also an option. Ultimately, you should try to choose underwear that limits bumps and ridges that could show through a gown. Form fitting and chiffon gowns have a higher tendency for ridges and wrinkles to show through. But as always, if you have any questions, please reach out!
Some suggestions from Amazon:
Quick change tip: wear some shorts (like boyshorts or swimsuit bottoms) and a top such as a tank with a built in bra that has straps that can be tucked in (no racerback, etc) - then gowns can just be slipped over these and no dressing room required! This will reduce the amount of time walking back to the changing tent and allow more time for photos!
Details:
Please be on time to your session! It is important that we can begin and end according to schedule.
If our session is outdoors, a changing tent will be available if restrooms are not on location.
Note: if there is wind, the changing tent cannot be used.
Make sure you are hydrated and have eaten well before the session, I want you to feel well and not woozy.
If you have opted for a session that includes a snack box, please let me know if there are any food allergies to know about (gluten free, peanut butter, etc.)
Wear comfortable shoes! I want you to be stable and comfortable as we work. Gowns are long enough that feet are most often covered.
Please let me know of any conditions or situations that make you feel uncomfortable! You and the safety of your baby are my top priority! Don’t be afraid to speak up. I will ask if you are comfortable sitting or laying down so be sure to let me know if a position doesn’t work well for you.
If you have others joining you for your session such as a significant other, spouse, or children, I recommend dressing them in neutral clothing. This would include colors like navy blue, black, cream, white, and khaki. I am always happy to provide feedback on clothing choices.
Remember I also offer girls gowns and infant options as well! You can find these options in my client closet. I love creating “mommy & me” looks.
After the session:
After we complete our session together, I will be in touch about 10-14 days after our session is completed. This will be an email that tells you that your images have been culled, edited, and compiled into a viewing slideshow. The slide deck will have ordering instructions, keepsake examples, and a link to an online gallery. We can also schedule time to meet in person if that is preferable.
I look forward to our session and our creative time together. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns as we approach our scheduled session. Thank you for choosing Seen & Hurd Photography.
